Rise & Grind Coffee Co. @ Bukit Timah Plaza | Hyde & Co.

Last month Alwyn and I checked out a new cafe in the West! :D

It was a Monday and we thought we could get the free cake, but apparently brunch items are not 'Mains' :( But we still ordered a cake anyway hahaha.

Truffle Oil & Parmesan Fries (S$9) - these fries tasted like they came right out of McDonald's, which wasn't really a bad thing because I LOOOVE Macs' fries except I won't pay this much for them:

Ocean's Thirteen (S$17) - poached eggs on toasts, smoked salmon, salmon roe (yay!), asparagus, arugula, beetroot yogurt and apple cider hollandaise sauce. I ordered this for the salmon roe and hollandaise sauce which I thought was pretty special, but unfortunately the apple cider taste is nowhere to be found:

Shashouka (S$16) - baked egg in tomato sauce, lamb merguez sausage and feta cheese with wholemeal pita:

Chocolate Cake (~S$7) - very dense, moist and chocolatey with different textured layers:

And last week's lunch @ Hyde & Co. with Ben, Alwyn and Lan Yan (whom I met for the 1st time that day):

Ben's and Alwyn's coffees:

My Iced Chocolate! Love the cute flower marshmallows:

Truffle Fries (S$12) - I don't remember having the cheese smell so strong the 1st time I came here, it was quite a turn-off for me when the fries arrived. Thankfully it was a different story when put into the mouth haha:

The Full Works (S$21) - eggs any style (my scrambled eggs portion was huge!), roasted potatoes, chargrilled tomato, bacon, pork bockwurst, baguette and baked cheese portobello (which I changed to bacon):

Hyde's Chilli Crab Pasta (S$16) - crab meat tossed in housemade arrabbiata, topped with herbed panko and cherry tomatoes. An Asian favourite, the chilli crab meat portion was generous and flavourful and the spiciness level was just right:

Speedy Gonzales (S$15) - slow-braised 6-hour pulled pork marinated in housemade BBQ sauce, creamy scrambled eggs, guacamole, pico de gallo (salsa fresca) atop a tortilla. I thought this was pretty interesting and Ben couldn't figure how to start eating it hahaha:

Lan Yan came awhile later and she ordered the The Classic Pancakes (S$8), with 3 slices of pancakes served with homemade cinnamon butter, maple syrup and Vanilla Bean ice-cream:

This Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake came on-the-house because they missed out on our truffle fries order. What a nice gesture, thank you!! :)

Anyway the main point of our meetup was actually to learn some magic tricks from Ben. He is trying to raise funds to make his ">Mantecore Playing Cards a reality (you can see the prototype in the video below)! They are still 40% away from their goal of USD$7000, which will allow them to create 3200 decks.

Check out my cardistry skeeeelz here hahahah:

Read about Ben Loo's and Edo Huang's story HERE and do your part if you can! 5% of their overall funds goes towards the Panthera Save the Tiger Fund :D

Hyde & Co. @ North Bridge Road | Everything with Fries

Last week's lunch with Teeyien @ Hyde & Co. before meeting Jiamin at her shop:

I love the homely feel as well as the really warm service from the staff!

Cold Brew White (S$7.50) - I can't really tell the difference between cold brews and the usual iced coffees, but apparently these are supposed to taste sweeter due to the lower acidity:

Truffle Fries (S$10) - thick-cut fries mixed with premium Truffle oil and drizzled with Parmesan cheese. Don't know why I ordered this since I don't like fat fries... so it isn't really to my liking haha:

The Full Works (S$17.90) - a full breakfast set consisting of scrambled eggs, a huge grilled cheese Portobello mushroom (which I thought was a meat patty on first look haha), bratwurst, streaky bacon, roasted baby potatoes, sourdough rye and homemade crumpets. They didn't have crumpets that day so it was just toasts:

Lady Hyde (S$12.90) - Hyde's take on the classic Croque Madame: freshly baked brioche, honey baked ham, sunny side-up, pineapple slice and cheddar, sprinkled with house special Hebi Hiam. The taste is pretty unique because of the Hebi Hiam and I enjoyed this a lot more than the ones I've had elsewhere:

Lemon Curd & Cream Crumpets (S$11.90) - these homemade crumpets are a mix between English muffins and spongecakes. I really love the soft and cushiony texture, and the sour lemon curd goes well with them too. I just think they are a little overpriced:

Saturday, at NTU supporting my brother at his competition:

Met Windy for supper @ EwF after dance rehearsals! Haven't been to the HV outlet in a long time, apparently they've renovated the whole place and also revamped their menu + plating!

My Chargrilled Pork Chop (S$21) (yeah, it looks like lamb hahaha) was soooo good!! I didn't fancy the Seasalt Fries that came with it though:

Hahahaha.
