[REVIEW] Dig in Cakes

Dig In Cakes is an online cake delivery store in Singapore which offers a variety of interesting flavoured cakes such as Okinawa Milk Tea and Blueberry Elderflower. However, I was getting the cake for my brother's birthday, and him being him, isn't very adventurous when it comes to food hahahaha so he picked a very predictable 8-inch Red Velvet Cake (S$84)!

Every order comes with a customisable message card for you to send your wishes to that special someone. Simply enter your message at checkout!

The exterior of the cake looks pretty normal, but decent enough for a simple celebration.
(Anyway they forgot to provide me with a birthday topper and candle, so I had to use my own lol. Thankfully I had spare ones at home.)

The interior of the cake is really pretty, with alternating layers of sponge and cream cheese. I like how the cream cheese layers weren't too thick so the taste didn't get too overpowering. The sweetness level overall was right for me too!

I enjoyed the combination of the different textures from the sponge, the cream as well as the crunchiness of the nuts.

If you are searching for gifts, Dig In Cakes also offers flowers, balloons and plush toys to complete the package! They provide island-wide delivery 24/7 as well so not to worry about holding any last minute celebrations! :)

Thank you Dig In Cakes for making my brother's celebration a success!

[REVIEW] Ice Cream Delivery Singapore

Ice Cream Delivery sells premium ice-cream, gelato, sorbet and frozen yoghurt from Mathilda's Gelato! Their ice-cream and gelato are 100% freshly handmade daily using high-quality and fresh ingredients, with no preservatives. They also source their milk and cream from cruelty-free dairy farms where the cows are comfortable, healthy and well-fed.

At Ice Cream Delivery, they promise to deliver within 1 hour from ordering, offering full refunds via store credits for any late deliveries of more than an hour.

My orders were packed in a spacious styrofoam box with ice packs to ensure the pints were still nicely chilled when they arrived:

There were so many interesting flavours to choose from on their website, but I eventually decided on these 4 flavours: Black Sesame, Bubble Gum, Speculoos and D24 Durian!

The box also came with paper cups - 1 for each pint - and spoons which I thought was quite convenient should you be consuming the ice-cream outside of your homes:

Black Sesame Ice Cream - 473 ml (S$18.90) - I added this to cart the moment I saw it because I always liked black sesame desserts! This uses premium Japanese goma that was carefully roasted at optimal temperatures for maximum flavour. It was definitely flavourful enough, but I would have preferred a thicker and creamier texture for it:

Speculoos Ice Cream - 473 ml (S$17.90) - this contains generous amounts of Biscoff biscuits (woohooo I love!) which provide a crunchy texture to the smoothness of the base. I also find the sweet + salty caramel combination just right:

Bubble Gum Ice Cream - 473 ml (S$18.90) - these colours are a huge selling point for me and I'm sure they appeal to many kids and adults too hahaha. I thought it'd taste like Paddlepop because of the similarity in colour combination, but it truly tasted like BUBBLEGUM - if you've had bubblegum (NOT chewing gum) growing up, you'd know what I mean! This was my favourite out of the 4 flavours I picked:

D24 Durian Ice Cream - 473 ml (S$20.90) - my parents and I are huge fans of durians - they more than me, so this was chosen by my father haha. The sweet, creamy flesh of D24 durians was blended to create this flavour, and like most durian desserts, you can never go wrong if the actual flesh was used instead of the artificial essence. I liked how this was not jelak as well, even after eating a lot in a go:

[REVIEW] Cake Delivery Singapore

Last weekend was my elder (I feel the need to mention this because everyone thinks he's the younger one...) brother's birthday! I happened to have a cake sponsorship from Cake Delivery Singapore and my brother didn't mind having a 'free' cake so.... hahaha.

Here are some perks of ordering from Cake Delivery Singapore!
1. FREE delivery for orders above S$80 - this is already a plus point as many delivery charges can add up to become so expensive.
2. Midnight and 24-hr delivery services - now you can plan a last-minute midnight birthday surprise without worry!
3. Money-back guarantee if your cake arrived in bad condition, or is delivered late for more than one hour.

We chose the 9.5″ Chocolate Rainbow Cake (S$82.90) that was fit for 12 pax. Delivery was done within the requested timing but the size and weight caught me offguard - I clearly didn't register how big the cake was gonna be when I placed my orders hahaha. But all's good! The more the merrier.
The only disappointment was the 'Expectations vs Reality' presentation of the cake haha this was what was shown on the website which got us excited:

And this was what we received, which was still fine, just not as appealing:

So.. does my ELDER brother really look younger than me?? Hahaha:

After my Mum cut into the cake to reveal the bright red top layer, my excitement came back because it looks so pretty already!!:

TA-DA! Fluffy colourful layers of the rainbow:

I can really stare at the vivid colours the whole day. They are made with natural and preservative-free food colourings:

My family and I loved how the cake wasn't too sweet - the balance between the chocolate ganache, cream and cake (the layers only have a single flavour) was just right. The texture was soft and fluffy, the only pity was that the missing colourful sprinkles would have added an additional crunch.

Cake Delivery Singapore also has many other variety of cakes like Biscoff Cheesecake, Mao Shan Wang Chocolate cake, Ondeh Ondeh cake, as well as flower bouquets and soft toys for special occasions!

Thank you once again Natalie and Cake Delivery Singapore for allowing us to have a wonderful celebration! :)

[REVIEW] 8 Durian

If you remembered my review for 8 Crabs, they have recently sent me durians from their sister site, 8 Durian!
Each box contains 450g (+/- 10g) of wholesome durian flesh and seeds, with the durians freshly plucked everyday from old trees (15 years and older).

The containers were nicely heat sealed, but were unfortunately stored in the fridge for a couple for hours before I returned home (I wasn't expecting the delivery to be so fast hahaha - thumbs up for efficiency), resulting in this not-so-pleasing condensation oops:

Kept the 2nd box of 'AAA' unopened for my Mum who wasn't home that day.
left: Black Gold; right: AAA

Premium Mao Shan Wang ‘AAA Grade’ (S$42.90) - we ordered 2 boxes of these (only 1 shown here). The flesh was rich, creamy and sweet, with a slight bitter aftertaste. This taste combination is usually what I go for when I eat durians!

Did you know...? An authentic MSW should have long flesh and small seeds (checked!), and to be graded as an AAA Mao Shan Wang durian, the shell should be consistently round - any single protrusion is unacceptable.
Would love to see the roundness of this, but the durians came shell-less, so... too bad hahaha.

Premium Black Gold Durian (S$47.90) - it was my first time trying 'Black Gold'... this species is supposedly an enhanced version of their premium Mao Shan Wang durians, but there was a weird bitter-bland mix to it which I didn't like.
My father enjoyed eating this though! He cleared most of the Black Gold while I cleared the AAA hehe:

Predominantly small seeds such as the one seen here (pardon the messiness haha):

8 Durian provides fresh large shipment from their Pahang plantation, which arrives daily at 10am and 6pm.
They provide same-day delivery as well as express delivery!

[REVIEW] 8 Crabs Seafood Kitchen

My family is a huge fan of crabs (actually food in general hahaha) so I was thrilled when 8 Crabs Seafood Kitchen delivered some to my house! This came at a great time because I have so many food cravings that I can't satisfy during this Circuit Breaker period.

8 Crabs is the only company in Singapore that uses grade AAA premium Sri Lankan sourced wild crabs, which means their crabs are meatier, tastier, bigger, and less watery. To ensure freshness and quality taste, these crabs are caught, flown, prepared and delivered to consumers within 12 hours.

I was half expecting the food (especially the crabs) to be 'messy' because of the gravy and all, but I love how they were packed so neatly in clean containers it was already a feast for my eyes before I even started. Everything was also still nice and warm!

Some crab facts for you! Crabs naturally travel about 500m every night and prefer to live alone, but they are often bred in a confined space in order to be profitable. This causes them to get stressed very easily in captivity as many farms cannot replicate their natural habitat, causing the crabs to produce ammonia, which is a sign of decomposition of seafood.
Most restaurants purchase these farmed crabs because they are cheaper and as a result, highly fragrant gravies are used to cover up the ammonia smell.
HOWEVER, the crabs from 8 Crabs do not have ammonia taste or smell because they are wild crabs instead of farmed ones! ;)

Here's a Singaporean must-order: Award-Winning Chilli Crab - Large 600-800g (S$75) - the gravy was rich, with a great blend of sweet and savoury. The spiciness level was very mild, maybe a 1.5 upon 5 ? Which might not be enough for those who are looking for a spicy kick like my Mum, but this was good enough for me haha:

Look at that juicy pincer! Pincers are my favourite part of the crab.

Eating chill crabs will never be complete without some Fried Man Tou - set of 5 (S$9) to dip in the sauce!
The buns were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and somehow they went especially well with the chill crab sauce. I mean they always do, but this set was like THE perfect pairing for me:

Andddd... my favourite cooking style has always been with salted egg! Here's their Award-Winning Salted Egg Crab - Large 600-800g (S$75) - the creaminess and fragrance of the salted egg sauce was just right for me, it got so addictive I couldn't help finishing the sauce (I like how there were also salted egg bits which added on to the texture) even after the crab was gone.
I think I devoured most of the content in this container hahaha.

My Mum: "This doesn't look as appealing as the Chilli Crab, but wah it's actually quite yummy!"

Bean Sprout with Salted Fish - Small (S$12) - good for 2 to 3 pax. I would prefer if there were more salted fish, and maybe if the bean sprouts were less 'cooked':

Thank you 8 Crabs for the yummy dinner! :D
